Musings

Hey guys!

I am still here, believe it or not. :) The craziness has ramped up, believe it or not. I'm still hanging in there, while also giving myself person to take it easy. I've tried out some new snacks and expanded my repertoire a bit, so that's helpful. And with the nice weather we've been having, I've been getting out for a lot more walks and exercise with the kids.

I just spent a few minutes reading up on Wii and Wii Fit last night. I've always said no to having a game system up here, since it's bad enough that my kids want to plan on the computer all day (we limit it, and they have to earn time through chores). But the idea of something like Wii Fit is awfully appealing. The only thing is that it costs so much! I noticed that Barnes and Noble sells it online, though, and we usually get several B&N gift cards for our birthdays every year. I'm thinking that maybe we can hold out 'til then and use our GCs for that. It's only a few more months..

Does anyone use Wii Fit? Is it everything it's made out to be? For those of you with kids, how do you balance their desire to game with their very real need for outdoor time, free play, and real-world physical stimulation?

Musings

I've been really struggling lately, as you've probably noticed from my sporadic posting. I can blame it on being sick and being under a lot of stress, but really, I just haven't had the strength. I'm feeling kind of down on myself, but I'm also hoping I can get back on track.

With the warmer weather, it's a lot easier for me to get some exercise, just through walking with the kids. I may not be increasing my heartrate as much as I should be, but every half hour spent walking around the block is a half hour I'm not on the couch.

I've been tired a lot lately (my own fault for staying up too late), which makes it hard to be there for my kids. My boys have always been really independent and so long as I put in a little effort with them, they're more than happy to spend the bulk of their free time playing together without me. But lately Colwyn's been asking me to do stuff with him, rather than me initiating, which is a signal that I'm not initiating nearly enough. I feel bad that when he asks me to play with him, all I can think is, "How can I distract him so I can rest for a few more minutes?" I really need to get my butt in gear, both with going to bed earlier and with getting in shape so I'm not so tired and lazy all the time.

I'm off to google healthy snack ideas.. wish me luck getting back into the swing of things, and for anyone out there who is struggling, too, know that you're not alone. It's hard work!

Musings

I think this is one of the few times I've ever been able to say, "Thank god it's Monday." :) It's been an incredibly busy, tiring, trying two weeks. The first week I was quite sick (I'm still a bit iffy, actually). The second, my mom was in the hospital with an ulcer, I was working on the new Journal of a Non-Dieter website, and I also had to make 170 cupcakes, a 6" round cake, and build two cup/cake stands capable of holding said baked goods. That was for my cousin's 16th birthday party, and I think it went over quite well. Here's a pic:

But, anyway.. the really big deal is that the new and improved Journal of a Non-Dieter website is now up and running. If you get a chance, take a look and let me know what you think. :)
